This program includes a preface read by David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker, and an epilogue read by Congressman Jamie Raskin.

Celadon Books and The New Yorker present the report by the Select Committee to Investigate the Jan 6 Attack on the United States Capitol.
On January 6, 2021, insurgents stormed the U.S. Capitol, an act of domestic terror without parallel in American history, designed to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power. In a resolution six months later, the House of Representatives called it "one of the darkest days of our democracy," and established a special committee to investigate how and why the attack happened.
Celadon Books, in collaboration with The New Yorker, presents the committee's final report, the definitive account of January 6th and what led up to it, based on more than a year of investigation by nine members of Congress and committee staff with a preface by David Remnick, the editor of The New Yorker and a winner of the Pulitzer Prize.

A Macmillan Audio production from Celadon Books.

Anyone interested in the events of January 6, 2021, will find this audiobook riveting. Even for those who followed events of that day closely, this report will unveil details perhaps overlooked or unknown otherwise. The preface by Remnick will be found by some to be left leaning. But it will be difficult to argue against his conclusions, and he offers a forceful, but not overwrought, delivery. The other narrators each do a fine job sharing the findings and conclusions of the Select Committee members without trying to embellish or underplay what was a historic day in our nation's history. There may be no more important listen regarding the fate of the nation's democracy than this historical record. J.P.S. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine

The House committee that investigated the events leading up to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and the insurrection itself completed extensive interviews with over 1000 witnesses. Findings from the investigation were presented in televised hearings and a full report. This audio edition of the report includes a preface by award-winning journalist David Remnick and an epilogue by Congressman Jamie Raskin, who served on the committee. The facts are laid out in a logical, easy-to-follow manner, with each chapter focusing on a different aspect of the investigation. While listeners may be familiar with the main points, the level of detail is extraordinary, explaining how and why the attack happened and assigning fault to former President Trump. A talented cast of 11 narrators delivers the audio; they enhance the text with narration styles ranging from evening news reporter-style directness to shocked incredulity. While it's a lengthy audiobook, the pacing is even throughout, and the facts are both troubling and fascinating. VERDICT This fact-based accounting of the events of January 6, 2021, is one of the essential historical documents of this era. The thoughtful presentation of this audio edition makes it accessible to a wider audience.--Nanette Donohue
