It’s one hex of an attraction in this romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Jessica Clare.

When Reggie Johnson answers a job ad in the paper, she’s astonished to find that she’s not applying to work at her favorite card game, Spellcraft: The Magicking. Instead, she’s applying to be an actual familiar for an actual witch. As in, real magic.
The new job has a few perks - great room and board, excellent pay, and she's apprenticing to a powerful witch. Sure, the witch is a bit eccentric. And sure, there was that issue with the black cat Reggie would prefer to forget about. The biggest problem, however, is warlock Ben Magnus, her employer's nephew and the most arrogant, insufferable, maddening man to ever cast a spell.

Reggie absolutely hates him. He's handsome, but he's also bossy and irritating and orders her around. Ben's butt might look great in a crystal ball vision, but that's as far as it goes. But when someone with a vendetta targets the household, she finds herself working with Ben to break a deadly curse. Apparently, when they're not fighting like cats and dogs, things get downright...bewitching.

In this breezy paranormal rom-com from bestseller Clare (Holly Jolly Cowboy), an intense young woman trying to pay off family debts finds a job with unexpected erotic side benefits. Regina “Reggie” Johnson is desperate for employment, so when she sees an ad seeking someone to assist with Spellcraft, her favorite card game, she’s determined to secure the position. It takes a while for her to understand that her new employer, Dru, is neither a gamer nor senile, but a real witch who needs a human familiar to perform actual magic. Though she’s wary of Dru’s nephew Ben, a devastatingly attractive warlock with a bad reputation, Reggie comes to like the eccentric Dru, whose magic is mostly benign, and after Dru is cursed into a coma, Reggie and Ben join forces and take on a hostile world of witchcraft in order to break the spell. This fairly limp plot largely serves as an excuse to get Reggie and Ben naked together—including one memorable scene at the bottom of a well—but readers will find enough joy in the lighthearted story that they won’t care about its plausibility. Fans of Katie MacAlister and Annette Blair will be pleased. Agent: Holly Root, Root Literary.

A fan of the card game Spellcraft: The Magicking, Regina "Reggie" Johnson is excited when she answers an ad for a job she believes will let her use her skills. Instead, she finds out she's been hired to be a familiar for a real witch. There's only one problem--Ben Magnus, the nephew of her employer and a totally insufferable man. When a curse strikes Ben's aunt, Reggie and Ben have to work together to save her, creating sparks neither can deny. Narrators Andrew Eiden and Holly Linneman bring the sultry, aggressive Ben and lovable, free-spirited Reggie to life. This is a fun and sexy romantic read with just the right amount of magic. It lightly makes fun of genre tropes and expertly includes pop culture references that will especially appeal to Dungeons and Dragons players and Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans. VERDICT This fun romance from Clare (Holly Jolly Cowboy) is a joy to listen to.--Elyssa Everling
