Based on cutting-edge research, real day-to-day clinical experience, and unparalleled expertise, the faculty of the Tufts University Cummings School, led by the renowned animal behaviorist Nicholas Dodman, provides the very best information on the health and behavior of puppies. Covering everything from how to pick a puppy, what to feed him, and how to housetrain, to why puppies behave the way they do and what to do in a host of medical situations, Puppy's First Steps is the only book a puppy owner will need.

The Cummings School provides a comprehensive guide to choosing and raising a healthy, happy puppy. Such a well-researched manual, however, doesn't succeed in the audiobook format. One problem is narrator James Boles, who reads painfully slowly and with a lack of affect. Boles's reading style will turn off even the most die-hard dog-lovers. PUPPY'S FIRST STEPS is really a textbook--to be referenced from the point of choosing a puppy through the many years of a dog's development. But without chapter titles or even track numbers on the discs or case, it's nearly impossible to find specific information on topics as they arise. While every dog-owner will benefit from this book, I recommend seeking it out in print. J.T. (c) AudioFile 2007, Portland, Maine
