Dare to Au Pair

Audiobook

Café au lait, career epiphanies, and love triangles.

Just a typical day at your summer job. When recent business school grad and meticulous ten-year planner, Kat McLauren, takes an unplanned au pair position in the French Riviera to schmooze a future employer, she haphazardly upholds her reputation while rejuvenating a local tourism magazine, grappling with three unruly kids, and avoiding a romance with the host family's eldest son. But if a summer full of well-aged wine, sizzling flirtation, and a bit of betrayal can promise one thing, it's that sometimes the best things in life are the ones we don't plan for.

For readers who enjoy The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas, Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy, Eloise and the Grump Next Door by Emma St. Clair and Jenny Proctor, and It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey.

Jennifer Jill Araya narrates Correll's (Stargazer) latest, the story of a fresh college graduate's stepping-stone summer before (hopefully) getting the job of her dreams. Needing experience working internationally and having lost out on a position that would've provided it, Kat McLauren impulsively applies for a job as an au pair on the French Riviera. Spending her summer taking care of three rambunctious children wasn't a part of her 10-year plan, but if it helps launch her career, it's worth it. Plus, who can be unhappy enjoying a summer under the Mediterranean sun, especially when mixed with good wine and a side of playful flirtation? With nearly 400 audiobook titles under her belt, it is no surprise that Araya provides a thoroughly entertaining performance, transporting listeners to the vividly described south of France. Showcasing her talents, she captures the nuances of voices and personalities, a feat even more notable owing to the international cast of characters and their myriad mixed accents. VERDICT Those who like their romance with an international flair are sure to be impressed by Araya's diverting performance and Correll's delightful story.--Amanda L. S. Murphy
